History of Polestar

Polestar began in 1996 as Flash Engineering, competing in the Swedish Touring Car Championship. In 2005, it rebranded to Polestar Racing, becoming Volvo’s official tuning partner. Volvo acquired Polestar in 2015, and in 2017, it pivoted to become a standalone electric vehicle brand. The Polestar 1, a plug-in hybrid coupé, was produced from 2019 to 2021. In 2019, the all-electric Polestar 2 fastback was unveiled. In 2024, Polestar launched the Polestar 3 SUV and Polestar 4 SUV coupé. The Polestar 5 (four-door GT) is planned for 2025, and the Polestar 6 (roadster) for 2026. In 2024, Volvo planned to transfer Polestar ownership to Geely. In 2025, Polestar recalled 28,000 vehicles due to battery issues.
